In 2018, my friend, Ukinebo Dare and I contributed to a book (Pgs 175 – 183) written to emphasize and share the stories of change happening across Africa through young people. This is a new narrative to represent and push Africa’s image about young people, and according to the main editors of the book:

“This book gathers many voices that speak about innovative projects and stories of personal and social transformation. Young feminists that promote sexual and reproductive rights, youth with disabilities that reject exclusion, young entrepreneurs that work to create better futures for their peers, young peacebuilders, activists that use social media to change reality… All of them are agents of change. In their energy, courage and creativity lies the hope of a whole continent.”

In our contribution, we highlighted our interventions in solving the unemployment crisis in Nigeria. Whilst Poise Graduate Finishing Academy ensures that young university graduates are properly groomed to be “job ready”, Gidijobs ensures that it connects them with employers of labour. It ensures that the process is seamless and easy for employers. In January 2020, Gidijobs launched a collaborative and continuous learning and development programme for staff of all businesses it consults for. This helps them manage their L & D budget as a small business, maintain a learning organizational culture and ensure a laser focus on productivity and growth.

The Nigeria small business industry can grow, if only it behaves like the big business, in structure and its focus on productivity. The book can be downloaded here.
